Came down with a nasty bug last week. Fever, chills, stomach problems, muscle aches. Missed three days of work. Needless to say, writing productivity took a hit, too.
Feeling better now, thanks. And news of my WotF finalist status helped take the edge off.
Anyway, that new story I had mentioned last week? Yeah. Turns out it really doesn’t want to come out and play right now. I knocked and knocked, but it just sat in its house, not even bothering to answer the door. I was too tired and ill to argue with it. So I picked up my toys, went to the next house down the block, and rang the bell.
Boy oh boy did I get a different response.
My new playmate all but knocked the door down. Must have been waiting this whole time to make a friend. I’m only too happy to oblige.
Working title is Petra Released. Obviously, it’s the sequel to Petra. I’ve been filling up pages with notes. All kinds of ideas are springing at me, from all over the place. What’s going to happen next with this character? I no sooner ask the question than I’m scribbling the answer, or possible answers. If that thread starts to lose steam, I switch to another character/situation, and out pops another torrent of ideas. And so on.
This is quite cool. I’ve never done a sequel before, so of course I’ve been a little unsure how it would go. I guess you could say it’s looking pretty good so far.
I still don’t have any overall shape of the plot yet, nor any sense of the length, but it’s very early days yet. With Petra, I gave myself a month of prep time before I started writing. I figure I’ll use a similar time frame with this project, which means I’ll begin chapter one by April latest.
So there, reticent story. How do you like that? Nyah, nyah, nyah.
