The 2014 Rotundo World Tour starts this weekend with ConStellation, in Lincoln, NE, USA. Here’s my schedule:
Friday
America’s Tolkien? 11:00pm
Time Magazine once called George R.R. Martin the “American Tolkein.” Is he? Is such a comparison even appropriate? Why or why not? Will A Song of Ice and Fire achieve the same timelessness as The Lord of the Rings, or is it too much a product of its own era?
Saturday
Will Television Finally Kill the Movies? 5:00pm
Television was once considered a potentially fatal threat to the film industry, but those dire predictions never came true. Now, however, television is experiencing a new golden age, with a slew of series, genre and otherwise, dominating the pop culture landscape. Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, True Blood, Dr. Who, and many others have become phenomena on a level once reserved for Star Wars and Star Trek. How did it happen? Do movies still have something of value to offer audiences? Will movies ever be able to recover the crown?
Creative Writing Session 8:00pm
Bring paper and pen and participate in some fun writing exercises.
My friend, the fabulous Carrie Vaughn, is the Author Guest of Honor.
If you have a chance, stop by and say howdy.
