Still researching for the Apocalypse Pictures Presents rewrite. Specifically, my nose is still buried in a really great and informative book.
You know, I don’t care normally care much for research. I mean, I understand the need for it, and it has certainly enriched my writing, and I wouldn’t even consider just faking my way through a subject about which I am ignorant. Even so, I always approach it begrudgingly . . . as should be obvious in the case of this novel, where I put off the research until the second draft. I’ve heard other writers talk about research rapture, but they might as well be speaking ancient Aramaic when they say that. It’s always been an alien concept to me.
Until now.
I might be overstating a tad here; I don’t know if I feel particularly rapturous about this book I’m working through. But I’m rather surprised at how much fun it is to learn new stuff about a subject I’m genuinely interested in, even passionate about. For the first time, I can understand how easy it would be for me to put off actual drafting while I learn more . . . and more . . . and more . . .
But no. The research has to end soon. I have a rewrite to finish by the end of the year.
Also, MileHiCon looms, and there are preparations attendant thereon. With any luck, I’ll be ready to produce some revised copy when I return from Denver.
