Progress Report, in which a mysterious stranger appears

Another 5100 words on Petra Released.  Here’s one of those boring progress meters, just to, you know, bore you:

My internal editor has been screaming at me that chapter five is way too long, that parts of it strain credibility, and that it’s fantastically dull, to boot.  I’ll be introducing him to the business end of a baseball bat very soon.

I had another little “I-don’t-know-what’s-going-to-happen-next-and-it’s-pissing-me-off” freakout moments, as I did just before starting the novel.  And I got over it in the same manner:  I realized that I did at least have an idea about which way to go, and I was just afraid of going that way.  No other paths suggest themselves, though, so I just need to suck it up and march on.

While pondering the next several chapters, an interesting thing occurred:  a new character popped into my head, one whose existence I hadn’t heretofore even suspected.  And yet there he was, all mysterious and probably dangerous and more than a little cracked.  At first, I tried to dismiss him, thinking he was too similar to a character from the first novel . . . but the image of this weird, shadowy figure just kind of emerging to meet my intrepid band of good guys lingered.  I’m intrigued.  I think he’ll be showing up, quite soon.  I’m not sure what will follow from that encounter.  We’ll just have to see, won’t we?

No updates for Write Club.

Marching on . . .
