Progress Report, in which I ask for water

Another 5100 words on Petra Released last week.  For those keeping score at home, it looks like this:

A little easier going at some points, but still slogging along, owing largely to more new characters and settings.  That, and the fact that I’m making up a lot of this as I go.  Seriously.  I don’t have a problem with working out what’s going to happen in the next chapter while I’m writing the current one; I did a lot of that on Petra.  But I’ve been cutting it even closer lately.  Like typing the opening lines of a chapter knowing that I’m going to introduce one of the bad guys, but not knowing anything about him–what he looks like, his mannerisms, what kind of person he is, that sort of thing.

But, hey, why let little things like plot and characterization slow you down?

Reader feedback on Petra continues to come in, this time from the unflappable, inimitable, and seemingly indefatigable

.  Thanks again, Jay!

In writing-related program activities news, replacement batteries for my laptop arrived today.  Yay!  Soon I’ll be able to write in coffee shops, like all the cool kids.  Except I don’t go to coffee shops.  I don’t drink coffee.  Or tea.  Or pop.  Um . . . can I just have some water?

The double joy of my WotF win and “The Frankenstein Diaries” coming out in IGMS has had me flying pretty high lately.  Thank goodness we have Write Club to bring us back to Earth:

A little over three months to a tier two rejection from IGMS, and just under three months to a rejection from Cosmos, in response to a follow-up.

Now I’ll make like a tree, and get outta here.
