Progress Report, in which I quote Ringo Starr

5100 words last week on Petra Released, which puts me right about here:

The words are coming very slowly at this point, and my internal editor is clamoring about this and that.  I chalk it up to Opening Chapter Syndrome.  Even though this is a sequel, I’m bringing in several new characters, jumping into new points of view, and describing new settings.  Makes for some tough sledding.

In other news, it looks like I am officially organizing a writing workshop at OSFest.  I’ll be on one or two panels, too.  Both are firsts for me.  Here’s hoping I’m relatively free of stupid that weekend.

I’m also feeling some significant time squeeze, due to a growing pile of novel-length manuscripts I’ve committed to critiquing.  Not much to be done about this except to do it.  I owe these folks for their input on Petra.  And besides, getting back into critiquing was one of my goals for the year, as was improving my self-promotion efforts by becoming more involved in the convention scene (see previous paragraph).

So it looks like I’m on track for 2008, at least at the moment.  But, as Ringo Starr taught us, it don’t come easy.  Hey, if they weren’t challenging, they wouldn’t make for very good goals, now would they?  Or so I keep telling myself.

No updates for Write Club.

Onward . . .
