Just before sunset on October 31st, the reclusive Jack o’Lantern (Halloweenus horribilus) emerges from its lair to lie in wait for hungry trick or treaters. The photograph of this particularly magnificent specimen was recovered from a digital camera found by a young couple out walking their dog. The identity and whereabouts of the photographer are unknown . . .

My second act is winding down, so it behooves me to figure out how this thing ends. Sure, I have some ideas, but much fuzziness abounds.
Unless something major and unforeseen pops up–and that’s certainly a possibility–this thing is gonna come out shorter than I thought. I might have to struggle to meet 80K.
