Finished the last two and a half chapters of Phase II of the Petra Released rewrite, bringing Magic Meter to here:
Man, am I glad that’s over with. Motivation has been severely lacking these last few weeks. I feared this thing would just drag on and on and on.
Some accomplishments for this draft:
- Cut nearly 15K words.
- Fleshed out my protagonist and his character arc.
- Substantially revamped one plotline, bringing it into line with the continuity established in the first novel, and resolving some serious logic problems. With any luck, I made it more interesting, too.
- Various and sundry line edits.
I’d posted previously that I was really excited to begin work on this next book, but now that the time has come, I’m a bit apprehensive. It will be my first attempt at novel-length fantasy, and I have to wonder if I’m ready for this. And will this idea really work as a novel? And should I even bother with urban fantasy, a booming subgenre that has to go bust sometime?
First date jitters, I guess. And do these jeans make my butt look too big?
(No, I didn’t really say that. Move along.)
One update for Write Club: personalized rejection from Triangulation: Dark Glass. Response time, about 3 weeks.
